My Music
My interest for music has been there for as long as I can rememeber. Ever since I got my very first record (Sweet Fanny Adams - The Sweet) I desperatly wanted to become a major rock star. I started learning to play the accordion around age 12, but quite fast moved on to learning how to play organ, since accordion wasn't really defined as the coolest instrument. My friend Frode and I formed the first band I was ever in, and we got started playing in my parents basement. My dad, who had always been telling me to start playing music myself instead of just listening to music, slowly started to regret his words. Finally we got a room in the basement of the highschool gymnasium, and we could finally invite girls to our rehearsals...
There was a line of 4 different bands with different setups and styles, and i switched between playing the organ, guitar and singing. The singing part was probably my best, as I never really got good at playing neither organ nor guitar. And, if you're not a good enough player for people to come and see you, you have to makeup for it in other ways. So I developed a reputation for being good at pyroeffects and blowing flames like Gene Simmons in Kiss, with no further comparasin.
I then started taking singing lessons form a known singing coach, and that helped quite a bit. Learing singing technique and breathing technique added some credibility to my singing. But even with my vocals, I was probably the weekest link in our last band, called Light, and still to this day I don't really know why they put up with me, as they had a potential to go somewhere. But it was great fun, and i still think playing for myself in my own basement is great fun. I still have a lot of my equipment, including my Organ, my Leslie Cabinet, a few amplifiers, a small PA-system and microphones hooked up and ready to play anytime.
My most recent hangups are my guitars. I have had one electric guitar for years, but have always wanted something out of the ordinary there too, and now i have! Check out my New Guitars.
I'm also happy to see that my son shares my interest for music, and at the age of 5 he's already had his real drumkit for quite some time. I first got him one of these small toy sets, but it broke within weeks, so now he's got a real 5 piece drumkit, which he spends time on every single day, getting better and better. The way he works it, i'm sure he will be better at playing drums, than his dad was at playing any instrument!
